‘Alai Payuthe’ is a traditional Tamil song usually presented in the Carnatic (South Indian Classical Music) format. This version created by Vijay Ramanathan blends the original composer’s melody and words with modern orchestration. It is complex tune with tricky word plays and is presented here by Carnatic music exponent, Leela Ramanathan.
Kesariya Balam
“Kesariya Balam” is originally a traditional melody from the state of Rajasthan in India. Vijay has added new words and music to the traditional song presenting it in a modern context. In this version, a lonely damsel expresses her wish for her warrior husband to return home from the long war abroad.
Tujh Bin
“Tujh Bin” (Without You) is an original composition by Vijay Ramanathan. In this song, using the night as a backdrop, a young lover sings about how much he misses his beloved. The song blends traditional Indian Ragas with gentle orchestration and subtle vocals to bring out the ambiance of night time spent in solitude
Kuch Tum Na Kaho
“Kuch tum na kaho” is one of Vijay’s first Hindi compositions. Vijay blends elements of Indian Classical music with Middle Eastern percussion, and other world instruments to create a mellifluous melody that fits into the mould of popular Indian music.
It is a duet presented by Vijay Ramanathan and Subha Jayant on Geetmala Season 9.
